The EP Grain board has a strong blend of grain industry experience and local farmer knowledge. The Board is represented by two directors nominated from each of the joint venture partners. The EP Grain board has a focus on governance, risk management and the development of a strong service culture. It brings together the local knowledge of the Eyre Peninsula farming community and the grain industry and risk management expertise of Emerald Group.

Mike Chaseling

Mike is the inaugural Chairman of EP Grain, appointed in 2008 following the establishment of the joint venture.
He was a founding Executive Director of Emerald, a position he held for three years following which he was appointed to the position of Deputy Chairman. He is a major shareholder of Emerald and Chairman of the Emerald Board’s Risk Management Committee. He is also a director of (Emerald's joint venture) Southern Quality Produce (SQP) Pty Ltd and Chairman of SQP’s Risk Committee, and is actively involved with the National Agricultural Commodities Marketing Association (NACMA), where he is a director representing mid-size companies (level b2), is Chairman of NACMA’s Corporate Governance Committee and is a registered trade arbitrator.
Mike has 20 years experience in the Australian grains industry, and previously held senior trading and management roles at a number of national and international corporations. At AWB Ltd (formally Australian Wheat Board), he was responsible for wheat trading within Australia and was trading manager for NSW. Mike then led the Australian grain trading operations of us food giant ConAgra Inc for five years, overseeing its expansion from a small base to in excess of one million tonnes annual throughput. Following his successful trading career Mike was appointed CEO of co-operative marketing group NETCO.
Pursuing his private interests Mike formed Ag Bureau, a private consulting group which specialised in commodity risk management. His clients included the Sydney Futures Exchange (SFE), where he performed a major critical review of the SFE’s agricultural commodities business.
Mike has held director and/or committee positions for a range of industry organisations including Rural Marketing and Supply Association (RMSA), Grain Legume Association of Australia (GLA), Australian Producers Cooperative, and the NSW Cooperatives Federation.
Deputy Chairman
David Jericho

David Jericho is the Deputy Chairman of EP Grain, appointed in September 2008; David has a long history of being a ‘hands on’ senior partner/manager.
David’s prior experience involves joining the South Australian Advisory board of Agriculture in 1994 where he was consequently elected chairman in 1996. During his time as Chairman of the Advisory board, David was also the President of the South Australian Agricultural Bureau which is the governing council of the Bureau.
David has also held a number of positions that have actively assisted his community. David has held the position of inaugural Chair of the FREE Eyre steering committee, which established FREE Eyre Ltd and was Chair of the State Planning Group of the FarmBis Program in South Australia as well as Commissioner of the Environmental Resources Court.
David has been a famer in the Eyre Peninsular region for the past 30 years and is a great supporter of rural business developments in South Australia.

Malcolm McMahon

Malcolm is currently the General Manager of Merchandising for Emerald Group Australia Pty Ltd and is an Emerald nominated director of EP Grain.
Malcolm is a highly experienced Australian agribusiness professional with more than 35 years experience at listed Australian and international corporations with global exposure to commodity trading, finance and accumulation.
Malcolm’s executive career has included senior management and trading roles with Riverina, Cargill and Elders as well as roles as General Manager Australia at AWB Ltd, and Group GM Commercial at Grainco. Malcolm was responsible for the development of the port of Melbourne grains terminal from concept to construction and the establishment of the Australian Bulk Alliance (ABA) country grain receival network.
Malcolm has previously been involved as a non-executive director in agribusiness and logistics companies, having held the positions of Chairman of seed industry companies Plantech and Seedmark. He was also a director of Pulse Australia, of ABA (Australia Bulk Alliance) and of Bulk Terminals Australia, which ran four bulk commodity export ports in NSW and Queensland.
Mike Wake - Non-executive director

Mike is a non-executive Director of EP Grain Pty Ltd and holds the same position on FREE Eyre. He is the quintessential entrepreneur, and was one of the original drivers of the creation of FREE Eyre.
A farmer and company director, Mike has been involved in various businesses while he continues to undertake projects, both locally and overseas. He is presently concentrating his energy and capacity to support, mentor and develop others.
Mike holds a Diploma in Agriculture from RoseworthyAgriculturalCollege (now AdelaideUniversity), is a Certified Practicing Agriculturist (CPAg) and a Member of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology. He is a former member of the Association of Financial Advisers, a former Fellow of the Life Underwriters Association, a former Certified Financial Planner and the South Australian No Till Farmers Association.
